Question 6: How do frugal people have social lives? How can I be frugal and still be asked on dates?
Perhaps there is a misconception that says that frugal people have to stay inside their houses and never come outside and never spend any money and never have any kind of social life what so ever. Where this misconception came from, I have no clue but certainly it’s false. For one, it’s not like you wear a sign on your forehead advertising your financial views to the world and as long as you’re not overbearing or defensive about it, no one is going to have a problem with it. Frugality is simply an idea amongst a sea of ideas and if it turns out to be right for you, you’ll find like-minded people to befriend.
Now as far as dating goes, I’m no expert but I’ve got a wife and a daughter, so to some degree, I’ve been successful. And again, the truth is social groups are organized of like-minded people. If your frugal, it’s not likely that you’re going to meet the cutest guy in a Louis Vuitton store at the mall because it’s not likely you’d go to the Louis Vuitton store. On the other hand, hiking and being outdoors is a very frugal past-time and there your chances of meeting someone who is into similar things increases.
For frugal dating ideas, get creative. One of my favorite frugal dates was cooking and packing a nice dinner and then hoping on a local ferry in the evening. The ferry, one way cost about $1 and lasted 30 minutes. Without even getting of the ferry, my dates and I shared beautiful views of the city lights from the ocean while having a delicious home cooked meal—how do you beat that for romance?
