Frugal Cooking
Frugal cooking is one of those interesting paradoxes in that spending less on food actually results in purchasing healthier items. This is because we start with a well known concept and that’s shopping the perimeter of the store or in other words where the healthy stuff is. This means that we avoid buying pre-packaged processed foods and instead opt for fresh fruits and vegetables, raw meat and fish, and dairy items. And although we do go into the isles a bit, for example to get dried beans and flour, for the most part, nothing we purchase will require a microwave.
Now there is a downside to cooking this way. For one thing, it takes some skill to be able to call yourself a cook. So when you begin, you may find yourself making some mistakes. That’s ok, as long as you learn from what you’re doing. Also being unfamiliar with cooking techniques means that at first, the time required to cook will probably expand quickly. But as you get your techniques down, and as you experiment with different dishes, you’ll get to where you can get a decent meal on the table in around 30-45 minutes.
